I had blogged once for logo trends and that was 2008 ago. And what is new trend for year 2010?

Box Up - Box it up with typo

Burst - Don’t look good when scale down

Cubist - One of my favorite and idealistic

Dust - Too 80’s!

Festoon - I’m not so fancy about this effect.

Ghosts - Blur with imagination?

Hexahedron - or Octahedron?

Parts -Cool idea but limited

Shift - Make sure it has to be printed in colors

Spores - It similar to cubist

It has been quite some time I’d never been to any Design conferences or exhibition; lately I saw this article from newspaper posted about KLDesignweek 2009 (www.kldesignweek.com). It was claimed the largest annual international design event held in Malaysia.

So I had this idea to bring along the designers to check it out, hope to refresh their mind and gain some inspirations, ideas and recharge their creative passion! As designers, we are creative - we have to be. Even creative people need inspiration. So the question is, where do we look for inspiration?

Since it was held from 27 March till 4 April, well, it certainly a good time to drive down to KL on Monday, why? I believe Monday’s traffic should be smoother compare to other day.

When we reached at CapSquare that located in between Dang Wangi and Jalan Ampang
(www.capsquare.com.my), there were not many people around, I found out the shopping complex was quite small and it was not located at the hotspot such as Bukit Bintang or KLCC.

It was such a quiet place to explore new things. Btw, most of the pictures were taken by my 2 megapixels phone (p990i); regretted has not brought my gear along. :(

The exhibitions have separated into 3 portions at different part of the complex. 2nd floor was occupied by individual designers and creative studios. 3rd floor was occupied by most of the commercial purpose such as colleges, design schools.

Close up and from far. Wonder how much time the designer spent on it!

Some wonderful works were done by local designer. Just wondered some of these as well as alternatives for where to find appropriate sources of inspiration.

One great idea amazed me, recycle plastic bottles and reform it into one ceiling lamp, and designer was actually using part of the handle (see small cutting part). They’re not original anymore, yet it has its own enormous compilation.

After we had our lunch, we continue on the 3rd exhibition area that located on the other site of hall; well, nothing much here and it was displayed all the collection of designers’ ideas - ‘Safe the green‘ or ‘Don’t use Plastic bag’.  These ideas motivated people reduce the usage of plastic bag and save the pollution from our month’s earth.

Few of us love the designs so much and which to buy those bags. Too bad, it was for exhibition purpose and not for sale.

At the end of the exhibition, I managed to buy this book-”The Web Designer’s Idea Book” which only cost RM75 from Basheer Graphic Book (www.basheergraphic.com). A book by Patrick McNeil (Creator of designmeltdown.com)

Why I bought it?

First thing in my mind about the nature of business, clients can be our best friends or our worst enemies. We have all experienced it; our client wanting to defy all of your knowledge and control the entire creative process. They see their competitors’ websites and want exactly the same thing “but better“. The problem is that they have uninformed, preconceived notion of their website and neglect to consider the many other factors in building a website.

Well, this could be the reason; we must educate our client so that they may understand your design decisions. And I think this guide book will ‘Feed‘ them nicely.

It’s the ultimate guide to themes, trends and styles in websites design. For example, sites by themes, there’s Nature, Food, Old paper, Splatters, Workplace etc.  But the key is to let design galleries inspire to design, not inspire my design.

I try challenge to break the design cycle, explore uncharted territory and be original. Go beyond what has been mentioned here; seek out our own unique inspirations. Anything can inspire you if you will just let it.

Sometime it’s difficult to create a total new concepts with any “references”; but in this case, it happen to have Similarities. Thanks to Similarities - a flickr set of pictures and design that pairs of similar images against each other, exposing their striking conceptual similarity. Too bad we won’t know who is the creator behind it.

The thing to keep in mind, that creativity is simply the sum total of your mental resources, the catalog of ideas you’ve accumulated over the years by being alive and alert and attentive to the outside world. Well,  when you explore Similarities, challenge yourself to question the subconscious influences and stealthy inspiration that creep into your own creative output.

Although it has been more than 40 years (1961-2008) that doesn’t mean people has forgotten. :)

Personally, I created something with a similar inspiration source to enhance my design and creativity. Fine-tune and don’t copy elements or positioning exactly. Another word, copy with smart not copy blinded.

Recently, found out some cool site that show some ideas of design with series of visualization.

Let’s look at this video describe about the  relationship between three of today’s most culturally relevant issues: The role of design, the idea of sustainability, and our collective capacity for change.

Cool and enjoy.

Few months back I had decided to get myself a new racket, and I’d been looking around and tested some other people’s racket, after I had tested Leo’s 10 years old KX yellow baby and I told myself KX would be my next NEW racket, it suited me and price were reasonable.

After months later and I heard our friend KX yellow baby has broken and he bought another new KX, and given me some online tips to find out more about KX. And I found this KX Nano Power Ace Savannah Racket (All Rounder) from bambintonbay.com and immediately I felt in love with it.

While searching around on Internet, I realized the KX’s HQ was actually located less than 3 KM from my parent’s house. Finally I paid a visit at their gallery and knowing this guy name William who was very friendly and helpful.

William told me KX Nano was a good racket and harder than other model. I was happy with his explanation and without my 2nd thought, RM198 out from my wallet.

9 of Oct (First week) I test my new racket. And Leo felt in love with it too. Trust me, without hitting it on the floor or hitting with partner’s racket at all. Unfortunately, it BROKEN and I think lasted for few games only! Gosh… everyone from courts were shocked and keep asking about what happened and was it come with warranty!?

Fortunately I called William the next day and he told me the racket might be defects and they will replace me a new one with no cost. And I was thinking should I go back the same model or change another model; ok.. Let’s give NANO another chances.

16th of Oct (2 week); The strings broken! Opps…not again! Micol said it could be the racket and my “Ba Zhi” not match! Anyway, I don’t believe that.

So I spent RM21 with my new Yonnex 66 strings. And played on the following week I think it lasted less than 3 games, it KAPUT, BROKEN again! Speechless, disappointed…was it because made in China? I believed it was the model and the materials they’d used were not tested correctly. KX, you need to do some works lah! :P

So, I decided to call William again and ask for new replacement, this time I’m looking for another model - Series 939D, similar to what Leo is having now. Hope it’s not going to “Break” my heart again! :P

Last week I was invited to the year end graduation concert for Tadika Tunas Riang, it was a half day photography session and I was quite enjoyed with entire setting and allowed me took some nice photos.

Overall, in just 4 hours I had managed to snap more than 400 shots; it’s tiring when I have to squat down and stand up and bend again! Next day, I could felt the pain of my leg’s muscle.

Anyway, for all the hard work, it was total worth of efforts to catch the moment of innocence. There were about 150 -200 students and we all squeezed inside a 900 sq foot markup room; and noise of kids’ laughing, crying and teacher was scolding, it was like a war zone. However, I was sweat but nuthing to stop me kept searching for the “face” that bring you “words”!

It reminded me when I was in kinder performance, so far that’s only 1 or 2 photos I had while I was dancing on the stage. How about the close up and the moment before going to stage? Personally I felt this moment behind the stage was absolutely difference.

There were many websites provide free fonts or typeface. But not all come with elegant and unique types.

I found this website - UrbanFonts ; a lot of design fonts that I’ve been looking for. With over 8,000 free fonts allow you to download and it comes with MAC or PC version. You should try it out.

At the same time, I tried to download one the fonts call “Aaaiight!”; just to test and see how cool is it…

After collected my specs, we went to Bikepro at Taman Megah. Micol, Joe and KC were there too, they kept asking me which one is nice and which better for Jerry (George’s cousin). Since Micol’s taste was about same as mine. Took the green one… at least it doesn’t look ‘cheap’, I said.

Bought it and head back to office. Seriously, I was totally not aware of that, I’ve been scammed.

And the surprise begins.

Weeks ago I have gone through some article about Color Schemes, some people likes certain colors nevertheless it’s very subjective. I come across with different type of clients either he or she, they all had different taste of colors, and some are believe color show lucks, feng-shui?

We see colors everywhere, it apply to your fashion, your interior, your moving vehicles or what currently showing right in front of your monitor.

Color Blender

Myself deal with colors everyday, when comes to color matching, usually you need some tools to help you - Color Blender. Yupe! This might help you not only on screen, or on your wall. Take a look at the bottom matching - each of them represent different feeling.
